OCEAN SHORES WOMEN’S BOWLING CLUB WINS GRADE 3 OFF TO STATE PENNANT FINALS
Last week, 208 women bowlers from as far south as Old Bar Beach to Condong in the north, converged on Cabarita Beach & Cudgen Leagues Clubs to contest the Group A Play-Off for Pennants over four brilliant autumn days. Seven districts were represented in all – Tweed Byron, Northern Rivers, Clarence, Mid North Coast, Macleay, Hastings Haven and Lower North Coast.

The Ocean Shores women were convincing winners in Grade 3 on 28 points from a possible 30 with runners-up being Port Macquarie City on 18½ points. Other teams playing in this grade were Evans Head, Old bar Beach, Iluka, Stuarts Point and Park Beach.
The Ocean Shores team is the first Tweed Byron team in recent times to win the group Play-Off and qualify for the State Finals. Ocean Shores is only a small club and has done extremely well to achieve these results. The final will be played at The Entrance 15 – 19 August.
The side consisted of 2 teams: Thelma Warr, Joan Bartlett, Lyn McGowran, Barbara Sprengel (skip); Joymarie Quirke, Florence Crowder, Maureen James, Margaret McConville (skip). Manager, Glenys Johnston, encouraged the girls all the way and managed to get the best out of the side in all games.
The girls are looking forward to the opportunity of playing in their first ever State Final.
Sides from South West Rocks, South Lismore, Tuncurry, Park Beach (Coffs Harbour) and Port Macquarie City contested Grade 1 with the winners being Port Macquarie on 15 points with Tuncurry second on 14 points.

In Grade 2, teams came from Casino RSM, Tuncurry Forster Sports, Cabarita Beach, Lake Cathie, Maclean, South West Rocks and Park Beach with South West Rocks being the victors on 24 points closely followed by Tuncurry Forster on 23½ points.
At Cudgen Leagues, the Grade 4 competition was held. Another close decision occurred when Kempsey Macleay RSL defeated Gloucester by ½ a point.
